Covid-19 Return to work policy for Therapia

Covid-19-Specific Policy for Therapia

In preparation for returning to Clinical Practice in the post-covid world there will be some changes to the working environment undertaken by Therapia.  These health and safety protocols are outlined below:

  1. Only four clients per day will be seen with the most “vulnerable” or “high risk” being seen first thing in the morning.

2. There will be no home clinic at Biggin Hill for the foreseeable future until guidelines change.  All treatments will be performed in the client’s home.

3. Each client will receive a text message on the morning of their appointment asking them the following Covid-19 specific questions:

        • Have you tested positive or had treatment for COVID-19?
        • Have you, or has anyone you are in close contact with, had any of the following signs or symptoms associated with coronavirus:
          • a high temperature – above 38C or you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
          • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
          • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
        • Have you been strictly following the social distancing measures outlined by the government during COVID-19?
        • Did you check your temperature this morning and was it normal?

The therapist will also take their own temperature each morning and report to each client the result and if there are any other symptoms/illness. The answers to the above points for both Therapist and client will then be assessed and if there is ANY risk to Therapist or client then treatment will be postponed free of charge until it is safe to rebook.

4. On arrival at the client’s home, the Therapist will request minimal exposure to other members of the family/household and requests that the client wipe down any surfaces/ areas that the Therapist may come into contact with, with disinfectant wipes before and after the treatment.

5. The Therapist will ask the client to wear their own face mask.

6. The Therapist will don the following personal protective equipment:

          • A disposable apron
          • A washable face mask
          • A wipeable face shield
          • Disposable gloves

The apron and gloves will be disposed of in a plastic bag which will be immediately disposed of once the Therapist has exited the client’s house.  The face shield and mask will be placed in sealable bags until the end of the day when they will all be disinfected or washed in the washing machine.  Each mask and face shield will be replaced with fresh ones for each new client.

7. The Therapist will use their own base towels and couch roll for covering the massage table or reflexology chair but asks each client to supply their own additional towels for covering their body or feet.  Each used base towel will be bagged up and a fresh towel used for each client. All used couch roll will be disposed of alongside the apron and gloves.

8. The Therapist will wipe down ALL equipment with disinfectant wipes both BEFORE and AFTER each client.  The oil belt will NOT be used so as to minimise potential risk.

9. The Therapist will use antibacterial products on her disposable gloves prior to commencing treatment.

10. If possible, treatments can be performed in an outside environment, or an area with increased ventilation.
